It is very unusual for us to mention a client by name in a holiday letter… and it may never happen again. Five of our clients passed away this year, all equally dear and important to us. One of the five was Greer Haynes of Germantown, Tennessee who, on November 1st, lost his 2+ year battle with cancer at the young age of 60. The reason we mention Greer by name in our holiday letter is, unbeknownst to you, he had a significant impact on you, possibly for a couple of reasons.

The first reason is that you might be a referral from Greer. Maybe not directly but you might be part of his “referral tree.” As you are aware, virtually all of our growth comes from referrals…and no one took this more seriously than Greer. We have many clients today who are 4th generation referrals from Greer who have never even heard of Greer. We recently determined that over 1/3 of all our business can be traced to referrals from Greer Haynes.

The second reason is that Greer was especially instrumental in shaping us into who we are today. That’s a very nice and diplomatic way of saying we had to endure an abundance of constructive criticism from him over the years.  There were days that listening to Greer was… painful… but it was usually because he was telling us how we could be better. Over the past 29 years, Boyer & Corporon Wealth Management has evolved through several iterations into what we are today. Whenever we took a wrong turn, we heard about it from Greer. So if you are pleased with your relationship with us, you can join us in saying “Thank You” to Greer and his wife, Cynthia. Without them, we might not have you as clients and you likely wouldn’t enjoy us as advisors.

Thank You, Greer and Cynthia.

(Richard had the honor of delivering the eulogy at Greer’s memorial service. You can read it here).

In the Boyer & Corporon Wealth Management family of clients, this past year also produced 11 births.  We also saw 5 marriages, 6 (successful) retirements, 4 high school graduations and 14 college graduations.  We wish all those college graduates the best of luck finding employment during these economic times.

As in previous years, in lieu of sending gifts to our clients, BCWM contributed $3,000 to the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (www.gkccf.org).  The GKCCF, along with its subsidiary Greater Horizons, is a public charity with a mission to improve the quality of life in communities across the country by increasing charitable giving, connecting donors to community needs about which they care.

We wish all of you a healthy and happy 2012.  Whenever you feel like we make a wrong turn, be like Greer… tell us about it.
