Mindy Corporon was unanimously elected to the Blue Valley Educational Foundation Board of Directors, and will begin her term as of July 1, 2012.

The Blue Valley Educational Foundation was created as a non-profit organization, separate from the district itself, in order to help supplement the needs of the students in the Blue Valley School District through teacher grants and supplemental programs.

The Blue Valley School District encompasses a portion of southeastern Johnson County, Kan., in the heart of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The District is comprised of 34 K-12 schools.

The Foundation’s mission is to enrich educational excellence through community outreach, financial development, and ongoing funding of extraordinary educational programs. Since 1992, it has provided more than $1.8 million in grants and special programs to teachers and schools in the district.

Each year the Foundation awards $2500 grants to the elementary and secondary Kansas Teachers of the Year to use on projects or programs in their schools. It also provides funds each year for the purchase of ACT/SAT preparation materials. The Blue Valley School District’s 2011 graduates earned the highest ACT composite score among Kansas City metropolitan area school districts.

Mindy looks forward to meeting her fellow Foundation board members at a breakfast meeting on June 19.
